My Day on Earth Day April 22, 2009

It was just another working day for me. It was extremely hot for the past 3 days but on the Earth Day weather suddenly started changing. It was getting cooler, a very good news for the Los Angeles residents and I knew it was going to be a great weather. I took this picture while heading to work.

I was driving on 110 and getting onto 105 west freeway. Meter light was on and I took my Canon EOS Digital Rebel with a Canon 24-105 L lens and took this shot.

Here's my attempt to get in the middle of 2 lanes and try a shot where I can capture the traffic backup at 110 to 105 meter.
Before people started honking I pulled myself together into the lane I was driving. Then off I was towards my work near LAX on 105.

There was Earth Day celebration in the commons at my work. There were some local companies showcasing their, now loosely used term "GREEN" products.

That's right, Robeks Juice was also there.

I heard they were giving out their large size juice for only $2 so it was a really good deal. Honda and Toyota were also there to showcase their new eco-friendly cars.

Finally, from the 24th floor of our building, I captured the LAX(Los Angeles International Airport) airport view in multiple shots and stitched/merged them in Photoshop using Photomerge feature to create a panaromic view. If you look at it carefully, you'll see it was taken behind the glass so its not a very clear view but the best I could do in editing.

My true motivation to capture this day in pictures was earthmosaic.org. They are going to create a giant mosaic of the earth with images submitted from all around the world. I just wanted to do my small part in this big effort. Hopefully one of my images will be a part of the mosaic. Well, that is yet to be seen.

Monday Photo Quiz on 3/31/2009 - Answered!!!

by Nirav Shah

Okay! Here's the answer to the quiz I asked earlier about this beautiful city. It is Melbourne, Australia. This was the best night time shot I have achieved when I was in Australia last year in August. Melbourne is beautiful and especially the Flinder's Street Station and amazing city skyline are fantastic. The place from where this photo was taken is called Southbank. This place consists of shopping complexes, arts precinct, riverside dining and Crown Entertainment Complex.

River where you see the reflection of the city skyline is Yarra river. The Southgate complex and Crown Casino are also known for their eclectic and unique shops and galleries including luxury lingeries, perfume and high-end fashion stores such as Versace, Burberry and Prada.

Across from Southbank promenade is Federation Square. I will have more on this later. For now, enjoy the answer to this quiz.

Photos on Canvas

Canvas photos are probably the most effective and inexpensive way to showcase your photography. I think it makes sense because framing pictures with the right frame size, photo size takes lot of time. While twittering I came across this amazing site called http://www.zazagallery.com/ Check them out. You will like it.

Their basic price starts at $25 for a 8x10 canvas. I am in the process of trying them out but these guys look professional and probably have better rates than others on the net. Here's a sample of what it looks like.

from www.zazagallery.com
Once I have ordered a print, I will post a review so stay tuned. Once I have my own canvas print, I intend to post it on my blog so that it makes my review of zazagallery.com more objective than a subjective one. Meanwhile, check them out at www.zazagallery.com
